My place is empty (Memories of disappearing city), Piruza Khalapyan
Piruza Khalapyan is a young photographer, member of 4plus, group of documentary photographers aimed to unite Armenian women photographers. In her projects Piruza reveals everyday life narratives by questioning topics of national and personal identity, collective memory, soviet and post-soviet. Lives and works in Yerevan, Armenia.
In My place is empty (Memories of disappearing city) project Piruza searches for the new forms of representation of traumatic past, which is an object for the image but not only, it is a personal experience of a subject, the storyteller. She describes the disappearing, crumbling and collapsed Metsamor, her hometown, through her personal experiences that are related to certain topos. Each chapter of the project raises questions generating images of the past and present. In the process of realization the chapters can be added or excluded. As we deal with a living story, it can dictate its own rules.
The projects is being realized under the Financial Support for Art Projects program of Armenia Art Foundation.
